The annual Festival of Camellias is a tradition of the American Camellia Society. Special events are held each day in February at Massee Lane Gardens in Fort Valley to celebrate these beautiful blooms at their peak. Festival events include: Senior Citiaen Days with box lunches, camellia plant sales, a spring fashion show and luncheon, and camellia workshops. Massee Lane Gardens has more than 1,ooo varieties of camellias, which may bloom from September through April. (478) 967-2358

Celebrate Georgia's sweetest season in March and the arrival of the first peach blossoms on more than 2,500 acres of orchards at Lane Southern Orchards in Fort Valley. Join in or just have a good time watching the challenges of the Battle of Byron in May. Activities include: the Trike Race, Fanny Race, Bed Chase, Greased Flagpole, Auburn Tigers vs. UGA Dawgs Tug-of-War, Mud Volleyball, Pie Eating Challenge and the "Distinguished Ladies" challenge, to name a few. The annual week-long Georgia Peach Festival celebrates Peach County’s reputation as Georgia’s premier peach-growing county, and it is the only state-sanctioned food festival. Each June, activities are split between Byron and Fort Valley, attracting around 10,000 visitors to enjoy parades, concerts, arts and crafts, the Miss Georgia Peach pageant, and the World’s Largest Peach Cobbler. The Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale was established in 2005. Georgia's Largest Yard Sale occurs each March and is currently over 200 miles long and includes the following counties: Lamar, Peach, Crawford, Houston, Pulaski, Dodge, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Appling, Wayne, and Glynn.
The yard sale features official vendors selling everything from antiques, locally crafted items, food and the traditional yard sale fare. Official yard sites range from multi-organizational group sites to the official individual sites. A special "Official Site" banner or "Official Vendor" yard signs identifies these sites. The Jailhouse Alley Art Center of Fort Valley holds its annual Art Show and Sale each fall, usually in the Fort Valley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of Miller and West Church Street. The show features original oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, stationery packs, and calendars by local artists. Most of the paintings, which include hundreds of landscapes, streetscapes, flowers and fruit, are matted and framed. Profits from the sale pay for art supplies and art classes, as well as a scholarship to a local high school student interested in art. (478) 929-2891

Get Outdoors
Peach County’s rural nature leaves plenty of space for outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, golf, or just playing in the park. Peach County offers two beautiful parks: North Peach Park in Byron and South Peach Park in Fort Valley. These parks provide: picnic shelters, playgrounds, walking tracks, tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, horse shoe pits, baseball/softball fields, football fields and soccer fields, as well as blueberries, pecans, and chestnuts for public picking and use. A Senior Citizens building is available at South Peach Park, while North Peach Park provides an indoor multi-purpose room with heat and air.
With near perfect weather year round, golf is a 12-month sport on the numerous courses within 30 minutes of Peach County. The Peach County area is a true golfer's paradise.
Peach County is within minutes of several Georgia wildlife management areas and public fishing areas. The Flat Creek Public Fishing Area is 10 miles south of Byron and has a boat ramp, bank access, picnic tables and restrooms on a 100-acre fishing lake with bass, bream and catfish. The Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, located about 25 miles north of Byron, totals 35,000 acres and offers hunting, fishing and mile after mile of hiking trails. About 35 miles north of Byron are two Georgia state parks, High Falls and Indian Springs, both of which offer opportunities for fishing, camping, hiking, bird watching, swimming, and other activities.

Spend a Day at the Museum
Two notable museums within minutes of Peach County are the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins and The Allman Brothers Museum at the Big House in Macon. The Museum of Aviation is the second largest Air Force museum in the U.S. and displays 93 historical aircraft, aviation memorabilia, and the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. The Big House was once the home of members of The Allman Brothers Band and now houses the world’s largest collection of the band’s memorabilia.

For those talented with a brush, the Jail House Alley Art Center is a group of artists in Fort Valley who provide an outlet for local talent and each fall hosts the annual Jail House Alley Art Show and Sale. (478) 929-2891

Walk in the Footsteps of Our Forebears
Byron and Fort Valley both have a wealth of historic sites and structures that date back as far as 200 years ago, and walking/driving tour brochures are available for both cities. Architectural styles in Byron’s historic downtown include 1860s Georgian, 1890s New South, late 1800s-early 1900s Victorian, 1900s Neoclassical Revival, and early 1900s Greek Revival.
Fort Valley historic homes were built between the 1860s and the 1950s. Fort Valley has two distinctive historic districts - The Everett Square District and the Downtown/Railroad District.
